ToughButterCup
Well , it's not flat and level like normal ones . This one is at 25 degrees. What to do? Have a look... All 100 by 50, but set at 25 degrees. And so that means that the head needs to be chamfered otherwise it'll push the PB out of line ... So I chopped off a small triangle (see detail above) so the face was vertical. To make the back of the studding work for the PB on the other side, should I nail the off-cut to the back of the stud? Or doesn't it matter?
Construction Channel
That is the "proper way to do it". The easy way is to cut the studs square and put a packer or fillet on the long side where the gap will be
Construction Channel
But in answer to your question. No it doesn't mater. You'll never get a driver to put a screw in high enough that it matters.
Mr Punter
Nice drawing Ian. Like @Construction Channel says, cut the studs straight as it is simpler. You can wedge a bit of batten in the gap at the top to get a better fixing to the rafters. The top row of pb screws will still be fairly close to the top of the board. Are you building the wall on the floor, then raising it?

Construction Channel
Not that I'm picking holes or anything. It may just be local terminology, but I would have called your "studding head" a "top plate"

Just a matter of making sure your measurements are spot on the first, second and third time you check. Much easier to get a good swing at it with the hammer to drive in the nails when you have it flat on the floor.

Right. I going to give it a go using spare 2 by 4 (loads from the shuttering). Now that I think of it, though Declan, my stupid hands.... means I was intending to screw everything together....
