I need to sort this out at some point soon.

Is BT/openreach the only option for this, with a long term line rental?

Are there better options? I don't really need a landline, just decent speed broadband, via an underground cable.

I haven't investigated what is available nearby (south Bristol)

No not me unfortunately.   I wish I could get that all you can eat deal from three, but no signal from there network here, just 2G O2 and vodaphone.

So still stuck for the moment tied to a landline.

A local commercial offering (thinly disguised as a community led scheme) is now offering wireless broadband, but it would cost us more than BT's phone, broadband and mobile package we have, so at the moment we are ruling it out.

I wondered if a cable-free solution was feasible.

I've got 4 kids who presumably would need to access my mobile data supplied. Do you get some kind off house hotspot with it?

You could try WiMax if there is a supplier in your area. Then you could still have a local phone number via VoIP in the future if you wanted.
