PeterW
Pear Stairs provide the half landing if you ask and it’s not expensive.
Weebles
Looks like our weekend job is building a half landing (before the plasterboarders cover everything - due next week). Is that a sensible order to do things? Or leave a hole in the pb and fix after plastering?? 5 hours ago, ProDave said: 6 by 2 framing all round fixed with 2 big coach bolts to every upright of the timber frame. Then 4 by 2 spanning accross on joist hangers to support the floor. What size coach bolts please? Ours is also between two walls. Need also to get some joist hangers...... Thanks @joe90 for the photos - looks good and we are looking to do exactly the same as you and @ProDave have done. Looks like MBC have left a handy fixing place for one of the 6x2s. This is evidently deliberate though we need to check the height. We just didn't spot it sooner. Duh. Will also check out Jeldwen. Thanks everyone. Weebles
Out of interest, what widths are everyone's treads and are you happy with the width? Just debating tread width vs gap between stair runs.....
joe90
@Weebles I would build it before plasterboarding, my treads are (rushes out with tape measure) 820mm and 480mm between up and down risers (dictated by distance between walls). ?
ProDave
They need to be a bit wider in Scotland. I measured the gap and made them as wide as would fit, at 930mm wide.
PeterW
Be careful as very wide treads start to get expensive in anything but white wood.
