jfb Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 So if I want to do a repair to a`ceiling (1.5m2 area that had a leak and needs new plasterboard) would you: 1. scribe and fit new board and then just skim over new board (taking care to get skim into any gaps between new and old board) 2. jointing tape over new board and onto existing ceiling (painted) and then skim over the tape and try to get as smooth a join as possible 3. something else cheers john
Moonshine Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 What is the existing ceiling, plasterboard or lathe and plaster? It sounds like its plasterboard, one option is a modified option 2, see if you can find the joints to the old plaster board and take the whole damaged board down, you can then pull off the skrim tape of the adjacent boards. This will give you a rebate to tape the replacement board to the adjacent boards, and can be skimmed smoothly over.

Hold it onto the ceiling and draw round it Then cut the ceiling with a pad saw Perfect fit You can normally scrape the exhausting skim back about 25 mm to allow you to get tape over the joints
