Garden time - rebar reeds

Recommended Posts

I have a plan! We will have a rill in front of the house with a drawbridge into the house. The rill will be about 5m * 2m or so. It needs a bit of vertical interest.

I want to make reeds from rebar with the top of the Reed glowing as a very gentle outside light.

I think I could bind rope to make the reed head. But how to introduce light? I need a glowing hollow sausage. All ideas of how to find such items would be very welcome

Here you go: https://science.wonderhowto.com/how-to/make-permanent-reusable-glow-stick-286139/

Recharges with sunlight. No idea if it actually works, but fun to try.

I think this could be the winner. We can dip the rebar like candles 🙂

Some of the locals don’t know we are bonkers yet. Making metal candles should sort that out !

All I can contribute is some rebar!

If you got some spare that would be really handy. Gives us something to mock up with 🙂

For those who are interested this is the plan. We’ll use rebar for the reed body. We’ll use hammered flat and split copper pipe to make the leaves. The heads will be dipped like candles into the glowing resin as posted above.

With my elf and safety head on

they might not be very nice if you trip and fall on them.

Kept me awake at night did that thought, when our retaining wall was being built.  Had an elderly (and, I found out later) slightly senile neighbour above (to the right in the photo) of this lot, it was like a bloody punji trap:
