PeterW
Anyone got a link to a structural engineer who understands timber ..?? I'm trying to engineer out any steel requirements for a number of reasons, but can't seem to find an engineer who doesn't use the words "just put a steel in..." Loads aren't huge and the rafters are simple - it's a 3.5m roof section and it can't be that hard ..!!! Anyone ...?
ProDave
I can't help directly, but try suggesting your engineer looks at using kerto beams, which are laminated timber beams (think giant plywood) I know from my own build that for a given size they have more strength than say a glue laminated beam and seem good for long spans. Tennentslager
Email your local university engineering dept? Na forget that stupid idea. I'm in Glasgow so could pop into Strathclyde uni as an email might land on deaf ears Pop in or phone your local one, might strike gold.
Onoff
Is structuraldesigner a member on here? He was over on eBuild and we were talking about him advising, as a paid job, on how I might beef up my garage roof construction to allow storage up in the roof. I WAS aiming to use steels as I want to minimise the need for support columns anywhere.
