Ecology clerk of works

Recommended Posts

We have had to have a construction environment management plan (cemp) drawn up to obtain planning,

so in our conditions it states we need an ecology clerk of works to oversee our work and make sure we comply with the cemp,

anybody had to do this and what sort of money did it cost, our ecologist has suggested the following.

First site visit £300

6 site visits at £200 each over 18 month period

last site visit to check we were good little builders £300

all plus vat.

I really feel like Im having the Micky taken out of me.

All my ecology stuff so far has cost about £2000, and they found nothing, zilch, no bats,no newts, so what the bloody hell am I going to harm if there’s nothing there.

Opinions please

That sounds expensive.

You could go and look at some other planning apps and see who the consultants were. Or one of your other consultants or your tree man may know someone less expensive.

If they found nothing, what is the Council's reason for that condition? Does it meet the 6 tests of a Planning Condition?

You could apply for a variation in that condition, then Appeal a refusal if they say no. The Planning Inspectorate would decide whether your build needs that supervision rationally.

If it is not a pre-commencement condition, you may not even need to stop work.

Notes

Hth a little.
