Spinny Posted Thursday at 06:57 Posted Thursday at 06:57 Floor levelling finished at last, but wonder what is best for radiator pipes coming through the leveller ? (See Pic) The leveller has effectively cemented the pipes into position. Is this OK or unwise ? LVT will be going down on the floor. Possible issues - Will this make it problematic to remove and reinstall the rad because of lack of play on the pipes ? Will the heat from the pipes crack the leveller or effect the LVT ?
dpmiller Posted Thursday at 18:38 Posted Thursday at 18:38 or will the leveller etch the copper and cause an early failure?
Nickfromwales Posted Thursday at 21:30 Posted Thursday at 21:30 Cementitious products, especially when laid wet and allowed to cure, will corrode the copper prematurely. Gently chip away around the pipe and clear it away, just a few mm, and then buy some pipe collars to cover up cosmetically. 1
Spinny Posted 23 hours ago Author Posted 23 hours ago OK thanks. Googling and AI seem to give conflicting statements some saying it may corrode the pipe other saying it will be ok. But best not to take the risk. I will chisel it clear, maybe the LVT could be laid up to it without a collar ? On the other hand maybe a plastic chrome look pipe cover and collar will look tidy.

There are loads of different laminate floor suppliers offering different finishes over solid wood or MDF, so you'll get something to match the LVT. DON'T use the chrome plastic collars as the chrome wears off with even just mopping etc. 1
Spinny Posted 19 hours ago Author Posted 19 hours ago ok. I used some chrome colour pipe sleeves in the bathroom which seem to be doing ok.

Less traffic / (vigorous) mopping etc? 2 of mine in my bathroom are almost white again after 6 years. Added to the list of shit I’ll never get around to changing, even as a 2 min job. Life continues in the background. 1
Spinny Posted 2 hours ago Author Posted 2 hours ago Seems best to free the pipe regardless as not sure of the possible stress on the pipe when it is anchored but expands and contracts.
