Guest Alphonsox
It's been a couple of years since the watertight shell was completed and I am starting to see the effects of the marine environment on the exposed metal work. In particular some of the mild steel screws that have been used around the place are dissolving at an alarming rate. I clearly need to do some preventive maintenance and replace them with some Marine Grade/A4/316 stainless steel versions. Can anyone recommend a good source ? The usual suspects seem to stock A2 but nothing better.
NSS
Try Force4 chandlers. Not sure whereabouts you are but if you have one fairly local then they usually have loose screw, bolts, machine screws, etc as well as blister packs. MikeSharp01
I get all my fastening from Modern Screws - Bexley, they are on the net with a rather low profile but if they don't stock it they will usually get it for you. My Neighbour - very into sailing swears by THIS company but they are a bit heavy on free postage and a long way from you - @SteamyTea is close though! Onoff
I've used Modern Screws too. I tend however to use XR Fasteners in Rainham, Essex. No website. T: 01708 524469. Ask for Vik. He should be able to give you a quote and delivery cost.
Onoff
Careful buying cheap A4 Gr316 stuff. I've some from the Far East stamped "A4 80" and it's RUSTY!

That has been my experience in the past unfortunately, far to easy to pass off cheap tat as the real thing

Thanks for the pointers, some local knowledge will certainly help. This must be a common problem on the peninsula.
