Solar FIT surprise letter

Way back in like 2011 we sold a house that had solar panels on the roof earning the original 41p/kWH or whatever it was.

 

Today I opened a letter by mistake that turned out to be addressed to the person that purchased the house. The contents suggest that after 6 years SSE still haven't correctly transferred the FIT account to the new owner or paid him the FIT.

 

The 18 page statement says it owes him £5,000 and includes such gems as "Your next FIT meter reading is due on xxxxx 2014".

I was reading on another forum of someone trying very hard to transfer a FIT contract to the new owner of the house, and it had stalled because the FIT provider was not satisfied about "proof of ownership" of the panels.  That is one thing on the original application, but you would have thought there would have been a simpler transfer process?

 

Do you think he has given up trying? or just ignorant if the FIT and not ever bothered?

The process was quite simple when we sold the property. As I recall SSE sent me a form to fill in with all the details and I returned it to them after reading the meters on completion day.

 

I think the problem is that I never lived at the "Installation Address". So while they changed the owners name and the billing address for consumption they failed to change the "billing address" for the FIT. That can't be the whole problem though because the statement that just arrived isn't for the whole period. 

 

It's almost as if they SSE had a computer crash and had to reinstall a very old backup.

I am still waiting for my FIT transfer to go through and over £1000 in FIT payments owed to me. The FIT provider sent a multi page form to fill in that had to be filled in by me and the buyer of the house with bank account details etc. It was a ridiculous amount of information. Also they asked for me to return it but they asked for info from the buyer, I just filled in my bit and passed it on to them and told them to send it in as I thought they might be uncomfortable giving me all their personal info. I don't see why it has to be any different to shifting over an electricity supply contract.

But my point is why do they need proof of ownership for a transfer? That was already proved at the setup of the FIT account.

 

The long running saga I was reading about, the new owner was arguing ownership transfered to him as "fixtures and fittings" when he bought the house, but the FIT did not accept that.

Surely their solicitor sorted it out when they bought the place, it is what they are paid to do.

Mind you, there was a bit on the radio last week about some bloke that bought a leasehold flat, then got presented with a £17,000 bill for work that was done a few years before he bought the place.
