I ask this knowing that everyone will probably just shake their head in despair at me... I know I got things all out of order.

I am fitting (I hope) a shadow gap profile around my internal doors like the first picture. However, in our rush to move in and get things sorted, the plaster-boarder and plasterer have plastered all the way up to the frame without the profile being fitted. As you can see in the first picture, I have chipped back the plaster so it will all blend ok. But this took me days!

Has anyone got a better idea? I assume fitting the profile onto the plastered wall will give an awful bump in the plaster.... Could I cut out say 10cm of plasterboard all around the door and refit what is needed and plaster fresh? Or will this just cause loads of cracking in future? Any thoughts before I give up and just fit architrave!?

Thanks!!

Sorry that’s a balls up too far, no matter how good you plaster and fill that it will show up in certain lights, mainly harsh daylight.
go and pick some nice architrave.

your shadow gap boat has sailed. 🚢. 🙋‍♂️

These are difficult to get right when they’re planned and executed to suit.

Retro-fitting these will be crazy difficult, but not impossible. You can do anything in reality, it’s just time / cost / quality and this will need a boatload of filling and sanding to get it looking right.

If someone rang me to ask me to do this as a paying job, I’d be adding a few zeros to the bill and clearing my diary for a month.

Agree your shadow gap isn't going to happen except at great cost - you've already got a taste of the effort.

What's going on with your hinge plates showing? That door is closed isn't it, is it just something temporary?

No bang strips yet, just a temp one at the top. They are going on next :)

Lots of lessons learnt.
