MikeSharp01 Posted November 8 Posted November 8 Just hove to ar our sons new house and found a leak in the pipe feeding the sink. I have not come across this system anybody know what it is and if I can go along to Screwfix and get some other plastic pipe and fittings to splice a bit in where the leak has happened.
FarmerN Posted November 8 Posted November 8 (edited) Looks like black alkathene pipe ( MDPE),to me, but dont recognise the fitting. If it is, any blue MDPE pipe fitting with addapter to black should work. Edited November 8 by FarmerN
Beau Posted November 8 Posted November 8 Could be the old Hep20 fittings. I will look in our odds and ends bin to compare as I think I have some laying about
ProDave Posted November 8 Posted November 8 That looks awfully like the cheap and nasty plastic fittings used on a lot of static caravans. Not seen it used in a domestic setting. What is the inside and outside diameters of the pipe?
MikeSharp01 Posted November 8 Author Posted November 8 Outside is 15mm inside about 10.5 brown in colour.
MikeSharp01 Posted November 8 Author Posted November 8 Just fitted a compression 15mm end cap and that worked so next trick get some hep2 and go from there.

ProDave Posted November 9 Posted November 9 Yes that's what was on a previous static caravan (our first build) and once connected to our mains water, one by one they started bursting. No doubt they were old but it would not encourage me to use that type anywhere myself.

May be polybutylene from another source, or alkathene. The rainwater system I inherited had a lot of these fittings in it and I think they are quite good, they can easily be undone by hand yet are very positive when done up. Screwfix used to stock them but didn't the last time I tried. Pipe inserts used to be s/steel but later ones were black plastic which have more flow resistance.
