Gave up on trying to fix the old Electra Elecheib induction hob and bought a Bosch. No problem there. The old hob was fed from a length of 4mm² butyl.

The new Bosch can be fed from one or two phases.

It comes with a length of this cable:

So they are suggesting to use this length of cable for single phase operation and just wire the cables in parallel.

However....up top in the terminal box are two brass links. Doing nothing, just sat in a "made for it" plastic slot. They look to be about 4mm². There is however no reference to them in the manual?

I can see no reason why I can't use the original 4mm² cable and then use the links in the terminal box to link 2+3 and 4+5.

I can't fathom why they include the links but don't mention them?

That looks similar to our Neff (which had a 3 phase wiring option too) I had to use one of the links (single phase bottom pic) plus there was already a link in place.

Pun intended but aren't there links between Neff & Bosch? As in they're the same company? I'd expect parts crossover.

I’d suggest the links are spares. I had one more than was needed in any of the three wiring options.

My Russel Hobbs induction hob can also be wired in as, what I think is really called split phase (2 of the 3 phases), but I have it wired in as single phase.

I asked @ProDave to confirm. I did post the question up a few years back.

I have not melted anything yet.

As an aside, I bought some cheap Russell Hobbs kitchen knives, fiver for 3.

They look identical to the ones from ProCook that cost 4 times as much, each.

I can testify how sharp they are.

I just installed our induction hob last week and it came with the same 5 cable arrangement as pictured above.

Seemed a little weedy compared to the hefty supply from the DB that our sparky ran in. Total power for the hob is 8kw so i was a little surprised just how thin their cables are.

I was also confused by the 5 cables until i googled the subject. Sparky also said either just common the phases together or link them at the hob end with the brass links to achieve the same thing.

All good.

Now just got to replace most of the cookware as we have used a gas hob for the past 15 years. Even my little coffee moka pot.

You can get induction pads/plates that sit on the induction hob, allowing you to heat non-ferric cookware. This sort of thing.

I wouldn't use them as a permanent solution or where large power output is involved, but for a moka pot I reckon they'd be fine. Do your own research though!
