Adrock Posted August 3 Posted August 3 I’m wedded to the idea of flush UPVC windows and a French door in my extension. I’m looking to get the most performant windows I can with the budget I have, it will not stretch to what seems to be the forum favourite of alu clad. Even though they’d be very nice. Does anyone have recommendations for supply only fabricators? I am based in Herts but I don’t need them to be local if they offer a decent service and quality product.
MikeGrahamT21 Posted August 3 Posted August 3 Have a really good think about the seals, and get their designs, the weakness of this type of door/window is the lack of compression seals

Adrock Posted August 3 Author Posted August 3 Hmmmm, considering I’ve spent most of my evening planning my next thread in the ventilation part of the forum, would the single seal have any performance implications for air tightness? It sounds like standard windows are the answer.

Windows isn't something to want to have to revisit, and the AT score is something you should get as good as you absolutely can if installing a decent MVHR unit.

Single seals are a recipe for disaster for airtightness, i think some of the flush ones have 2 seals, but they are the same type, i.e. friction fit, so will never provide a great seal, and will be susceptible to ripping. As @Nickfromwales said, you only want to be doing windows once, they're an expensive item, so the important things are seals, frame quality (in terms of insulating factor, the number of chambers etc), and the thickness of glazing unit you can fit.
Stratman Posted August 4 Posted August 4 I'm considering Veka which appear to have three seals on their flush profile. I'd be interested to hear what the forum thinks of this brand.

Fitted lots of Veka in previous renovations / extensions etc. Nothing bad to say about them tbf, and that profile shows quite good seals for a upvc offering.
Stratman Posted August 4 Posted August 4 @Nickfromwales thanks, that's good to hear. @Adrock So these are marketed as Passivhaus standard. I have a quote from Precision (who are based near Glasgow but supplying to Wales) for Veka's Matrix FS70 triple glazed system, but I'll probably go for the more modern bevelled profile of the Halo System 10 or the Softline Passivhaus. 2
Adrock Posted August 4 Author Posted August 4 That's @Stratman, do you have a link to a website? Anyone else know of a decent supplier of windows and doors that will be suitable for achieving decent airtightness? My house is a mess of phased refurbishment so it won't achieve any degree of airtightness until I get everything done, which could be years the way I'm going.
