Beau Posted Tuesday at 18:36 Posted Tuesday at 18:36 I've nearly settled on using micro cement for the walls on our shower cubical. I've never used the stuff before but on paper like the simplicity, no grout and cost. Looking at the installation advice I should use WR plasterboard sealed onto the shower tray, skimmed and then the micro cement. I was wondering if any of you have any comment good or bad about the stuff and the backing before I commit to this plan. Thanks
MPH243 Posted Tuesday at 21:24 Posted Tuesday at 21:24 I tried on a house last year that had 2 bathrooms micro cemented, it did look good and minimalist. Find somebody who will do it and then get them to spec how and what they want to micro cement onto. I can't comment about long term as this is the only time I have seen it. 1
Kelvin Posted Tuesday at 21:41 Posted Tuesday at 21:41 It’s water resistant not waterproof so the substrate underneath needs to be fully waterproofed first. The micro cement is then sealed to improve its water resistance. I seriously considered it but couldn’t find anyone locally that specialised in it and didn’t feel up to do doing it myself. 1
nod Posted Wednesday at 05:42 Posted Wednesday at 05:42 While it’s not my thing I’ve used this on plenty of other people’s jobs It’s Jus as waterproof as tiles We normally do a few sample boards for the colour Most go for concrete look But there are plenty of shades and depth of texture Be sure that you get someone that is experienced and not just learning on your job Like tiles Make sure you are going to be happy with it as it can’t be skimmed over if your not 1
Beau Posted Wednesday at 07:09 Author Posted Wednesday at 07:09 Hmmm now you have me worried as I thought it was something you could DIY, the manufacturer sells it as such. I'm not a plasterer but can do a decent job dry lining but not with pink. The process sounded time consuming but not as much of an art as applying pink. Also it claims to be fully waterproof. Are they overselling it and have I got these things wrong?
andyscotland Posted Wednesday at 07:33 Posted Wednesday at 07:33 @nod what do you do for substrate/tanking for the microcement: can it be applied over the impey waterguard you mentioned the other day?
