What to paint a Steel goalpost frame with?

I've got a (roughly) 2.5m Goal Post frame made from 100mm SHS. What's the best thing to paint it with?

 

It's forming an Oriel Window opening, so it'll be covered/cladded etc, but I want to paint it properly before it's lifted into place.

 

Historically I'd have used Hammerite or something like that, but I thought I'd ask you good folk.

I'd get it galvanized. Possibly powder coated as well.

I wuz justabout to say that @Jenki or @Russell griffiths will tell you to get it anodised or whatever it's called. Cos I asked the same question yurs ago. Hmmm.

 

I ignored their sage responses cuz I was broke (still am)

 

5 years later, less broke, I wish I'd taken their advice. Got myself a proper Forth Bridge now. 

 

Still, keeps me out of HerIndoors hair innit. 😔

With it being cladded and thus unseen, I'd want to know it will outlive me. I'm 52 and most of my cost based decisions were based on " do I want to be repairing that at 75?" Or "I'll be long gone, or won't care in 30 years, so that will be fine"

I would say you have two options a sensible one and an ok one

 

1. Hot dip galvanised

2. Sand blast, epoxy prime with high zinc primer and suitable top coat if seen or just primer if not seen and uv cannot get to it.
