I want to build an extension on top of my existing flat roof, my house is attached fully one side and attached by the garages the other side. What is the likelihood that planning permission will be granted.

Personally I'd say have some consideration for your neighbour. Even if you can do something it doesn't mean you should do it.

Probably not a popular sentiment these days.

Tell us a bit about about the research you have done for yourself: who have you talked to , what research have you done on your LPA website, what professional advice have you sought?

I ask, because - as written - you give us precious little information to go on.

You may be able to get permission for the proposed extension but the council would be very unlikely to agree to the extension going right up to the boundary line. The guidelines typically expect 1-2m separation to avoid the terracing effect. It may therefore not be worth doing based on the amount of space you would gain.
