revelation Posted Monday at 05:44 Posted Monday at 05:44 We are having a wall built in our garden and the front driveway. I wanted to run cable for future lighting, such as recessed wall lights. Some of the cables will be run underground and some between the brickwork so they won't be seen. What kind of cable would I need? My electrician is away, and my bricklayer has begun the footings for the wall, so I need to act quickly.
markc Posted Monday at 06:58 Posted Monday at 06:58 +1 for ducting that way the cable can be put in or changed to suit your needs.
ToughButterCup Posted Monday at 07:28 Posted Monday at 07:28 Steel Wired Armoured cable is what you need ( SWA). There are loads of YT videos of people doing the same job Why SWA - because in years to come you never know who is going to put a spade through the cable - hell it might even be you.
Alan Ambrose Posted Monday at 07:46 Posted Monday at 07:46 If you decide to duct, make it larger than you think, min 50mm, preferably straight but definitely not crushed or with sharp bends. If it’s just lights, the smallest 1.5mm SWA: https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Main_Index/Cable_Index/Armoured_SWA/index.html … will handle lots of lights together with, say, one outdoors socket. Have an extra slot in your consumer unit you can use?
