the metal downpipe is rusty, any solutions?

My metal downpipe is rusty. Do you have any suggestions for solving the problem? If maintained well, how many years can this pipe be used before replacing it?

The backside of these is normally in far worse condition than the bit you can see. 
get it replaced.

Thank you for your suggestions! It is a way that only replace the part about the ground and the part under seems connected with the sewage system, it could be a big project?

Difficult to tell is there holes in it?

 

If not, get a scraper to remove the worst. The hand wire brush. Then use a rust stabiliser, such as

Then prime and to coat.

 

Rust often looks way worse, than in reality. It expands about 6x the volume of the base material.

There is no holes, it works fine just worry that one day it will be totally blocked or leaked.

Scrape off the flaking paint, and give it a good coat of Hammerite paint. 
or find a metal primer that goes over rust and paint it with that first.
