Bryera Posted February 17 Posted February 17 Dose anyone know by looking at this if this will power a ring door bell ?
MikeSharp01 Posted February 17 Posted February 17 Not really because the ring system is 24V at 500mA AC by the looks of it. Your transformer is 8V at 1.00A so neither has the power output needed (12W needed 8W available) or the voltage (24V needed 8V available.) 2
Canski Posted February 17 Posted February 17 I just use the battery for mine. I have a spare that is always charged. It’s a 5 second job to swap them over once you have dropped and lost the fiddly little security screw. 1
Alan Ambrose Posted February 17 Posted February 17 A PoE doorbell, if you can run a cat5 cable to it, will give you power and direct network so you never have to think about it again. 1

So do I need a different transformer and if so witch one ? And yer I had ring door bell for long time and sick of changing batteries as I have my settings to max and it covers a big bit of the garage so battery seems to go down quicker getting up on power I have one less job to do one less thing for wife to shout at me about 😂😂
Alan Ambrose Posted February 18 Posted February 18 For PoE the (usually) 24V comes from the router or hub and can often be switched on of off in software. I have the Reolink doorbell which does this fine if you’re not determined to have the Ring. There are probably other makes too that support PoE. 1

Could be wrong, but I think the base model Ring doorbells are still wireless only, and can't be connected via ethernet. If I had the ability to route a wire from a socket to the rear of the doorbell, I'd use something like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/ZAYMDO-Doorbell-Transformer-Accessories-Compatible-10m/dp/B0B3S1QNVT In my case, I had a CAT6 cable to the doorbell position from our plant room. I got tired of replacing the battery and ended up wiring something like the above to a pair within the CAT6 cable in the plant room. Been working fine for at least three years now. 2
