Hi I wonder if anyone can help. We purchased a new build - 3 years old, December last year. Big incentive was the ASHP. Within 3 weeks of moving in a L9 fault appeared on the control unit and subsequently no H/HW.

Service records show the same problem a month before we purchased the house and an upgraded pump was fitted.

The service engineer- contracted out, sent out by Mitsubishi said that the plate needed flushing costing us £1200. It made absolutely no difference. He then came back 2 days later to fit a new flow sensor - again further cost.
the system worked for 5 days then back to the L9 fault.
he is now saying that the system was  poorly fitted and needs the pipework altering - again more cost to us.

The thing is this same engineer seems to have done all the annual maintenance and no mention of a poorly fitted system on the records.

Mitsubishi customer care have been awful and of no help and are now saying that the system is out of warranty so there is nothing they can do.

Any suggestions please would be of help. We are new to ASHP and have had no H/HW for the last 6 weeks.

We’ve had the same issue several times now

Ours has been easy to reset

Our installer says after checking everything That it has to be the flow switch One on order now

I’m sorry to hear about your experience since moving in.

Dangerous to assume I know but let’s assume that for the previous owner it has worked for its first 3 years so there shouldn’t really be anything fundamentally wrong with the install.

I would be looking at bringing in an ASHP expert.  I guess my first port of call would be a Heat Geek assured installer.

I’ll keep you posted on ours

The two guys that fitted ours Served there time as air on fitters and set up on there own fitting HPs in 2010 and only fit Mitsubishi

The problem with ours is that it’s intermittent Which three years ago yours probably was They both seem pretty sure that replacing the flow meter will do it Time will tell

@James Logan why not post a drawing or sketch of your system, showing what you currently have.

Low flow could be a number of reasons, but should be easy enough to sort out.

Can you drain down some of the fluid being circulated through heating system, what does it look like?

Might be worth getting an old fashioned flow gauge fitted at the same time so you can get a visual indication of thr flow independent of any electronic device.

Faulty flow sensors can be a bugger to identify, especially if they are intermittent.

With this type of gauge you can confirm if there is a flow or not (plus can see the condition of the fluid)

If you search this forum (easiest via Google) there's loads of threads about dreaded L9 error.

Mine was caused by a buckled flexible pipe outside. My friend's was a blocked strainer. My own previous issues (and recur every time I drain it) is air trapped in the system and really hard to bleed out (the pipes go up and over). I blew the air out by connecting external pipe to outdoor mains pressure tap!

The list goes on and on. Like your installer (with exception I'm not claiming to be knowledgeable on ecodan) I replaced many components (3 port valve, flow sensor, pump) before finding the part that actually needed replacing. It does seem to be the way UK plumbing works, since before my time if I'm honest.

Good luck
