OldieNewbie Posted February 1, 2025 Posted February 1, 2025 Are concrete heads no longer used over doors and windows? it seems that every opening has steel in place where the head would usually be. why is that?
nod Posted February 1, 2025 Posted February 1, 2025 Some still do But most use steel insulated lintels

OldieNewbie Posted February 1, 2025 Author Posted February 1, 2025 So there’s no actual rules or regulations on bridging over windows or doors and steel? its at the discretion of the designer/engineer?

It's the load they need to take. Steel is defaulted to buy many structural engineers as it's easy to spec and there's suppliers in every town. I would prefer concrete. Easier to plaster etc after. 1
