Temporary Driveway Surface

Hi, with our build about to start, I am looking to install a temporary track/road for the heavy vehicles that will be attending site. Is type 1 MOT what I should be putting down and compacting? Should I install a membrane first?

Our groundworker stripped the topsoil from where the temp track was going, we laid terram, and then had crushed hardcore (50-75mm) spread on top. MOT1 tends to be a little dearer

check with local demolition and disposal firms, crushed rubble is good for this

Can I ask - are you planning to replace this later, or will it be your driveway base in future?

this is a great question! our planning stipulated free draining driveway so we had to have permeable sublayer so rather than putting down loads of hardcore/type 1 to only have to remove it later we dug down the required depth and filled it with what will be the final subbase layer and then put terram on top and a 100mm layer of cheapest hardcore on top of that for the lorries to drive on.

You don't want something with lots of fines. It will move about and the fines will washout. You want big stones. We used 100mm crusher run. We'll be skimming it with 50mm of 0-32mm stone, then gravel grids, and then granite gravel as the final drive.
