tony1975 Posted December 2 Share Posted December 2 Hi, i hope somebody can help with my roof issue, and the damp problems im facing, so, i had some damp showing in the spare room it was running through the beading in the plaster work, i went up into the loft and where it was seemingly going to this part of the was Chimney running down into the this pint and causing damp, and there was no signs of wet coming in to this point to cause this issue, so was a bit confused by this, so the only other thing i thought was maybe it's coming in through the Chimney, at the top, maybe in through the Hole the Monet hood style pot sit on top, anyway, i bought some scaffolding in the summer and got up there to take a look, i found that on the very top of the stack, around the where the Chimney sleeve sits there was a hold about the size of a 10 pence piece, i dug at it but it but couldn't tell how far down it went, so i decided to replace the sleeve and the buy a new hood for the top as it had the old central heating alloy cap on the top, i repaired the sleeve with a brand new one and renewed the cement around both of them that was there and checked the flashing on that side where the waters seemed to be coming in from, i don't think that it's reaching that point any longer, but am still uncertain, anyway, i climbed into the loft loft to put an aerial wire into my son bedroom and saw that there was hard board on that same side soaked in water, today i checked and it's dried out a bit, i just can't see where the water maybe coming in front, it's confusing, i have also noticed that the Chimney stack is damp coming through the bricks on the inside of the loft, i have included some pictures of the work i did. any help i would so grateful, thank you 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Pocster Posted December 2 Share Posted December 2 I have ( had ! ) something similar . It wasn’t obvious how the water was getting in . I got my roofer to render the entire stack as we suspected that . Water still gets in ! . His next suggestion was he will have to strip the roof around the stack and possibly ( depending on what he finds ) remove the entire stack . Not much help to you though …. Hi, thanks for taking the time to reply, i appreciate it, yeah, it is a bit of mystery, maybe i should render my stack too, just to see if that helps, unfortunately, i can't remove the who stack, as half it is adjoining to my next door Neighbours house, i checked my flashing when i was up there and it all seems good. but thanks for help anyways. best regards 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

tony1975 Posted December 5 Author Share Posted December 5 Hi, thank you all for taking the time to reply, could probably get up there when the weather changes and try wrap it, i have a tarp, and when the weather changes do repointing and change the flashing, it was raining last night and got up there to check and can see the water on the inside on the breast not good, can't do much with the way the weather is right now, but as soon as it breaks if it ever does, i'll be up there, thanks for the reply's it's much appreciated. Hi, no not had anybody look at it, and it's adjoining the next door door neighbors stack, could possibly take down mine and re do it, bit it looked ok when i was up there, thanks for the reply. tony1975 Posted December 5 Author Share Posted December 5 So, i have decided to repoint the Chimney, and then use a silicon sealer, which turns the brickwork a slight different colour, but fades over time, seems there are some good reviews out there for this type of treatment, i even watched a video just now of a surveyor saying it's natural for water ingress in this way, well, that's all good, but going to seal my Chimney asap.
