ToughButterCup Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 Electricity cable installed today. (with a mole) Now I need a meter. My current supplier (Utility Warehouse) can't supply a meter for free, and helpfully suggested that I look for a company that will supply a meter for free. Anyone know of a company that will install an electricity meter for free? Ian
ToughButterCup Posted November 20, 2017 Author Posted November 20, 2017 Well, that didn't take long. British Gas will fit a meter for free, tie us into one month contract (rolling) for a standing charge of 26.01 per day and a unit price of 15.69/ KwH. So, if we don't use any electricity, we're looking at a cost of about £10 before switching to Ebico (Robin Hood Energy) for a zero standing charge. I've missed something haven't I? It's going too smoothly.
ProDave Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 I think it's only the big 6. I had to sign up with SSE on the standard tariff to get the meter then transferred to ebico. I was on that zero standing charge contract for nearly 2 years.

Onoff Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 BG are alright in my dealings with them. For instance EDF wanted ££ to come fit an REC to an existing supply and silly lead times. BG were offering the service for nowt and apologised that they couldn't come and do it for 2 days...but only for BG customers. In the end EDF did it. They then never charged for it but I'm guessing that was an oversight on their part.
PeterW Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 Eon will do them - I was with them for a whole 11 days before transferring to Ebico to go Zero Standing Charge. You need your meter supply address and they should give you an MPAN
