Am I mad? Plan for amtico stick down in wet room..

Recommended Posts

I have the tiles so if I put Mapei Mapecoat as a waterproof barrier on the screed, followed by Mapei’s Ultrabond ECO VS90 as an adhesive then on top Mapei Mapecoat 4LVT Non Slip Matt Finish for a protective, non-slip top layer - would that work?

or else tell me something that isn't hard ceramic tiles that doesn't cost something eye watering. Also impossible to get anyone to do vinyl here without it being astronomic.

Do you have a shower tray or a former for tiling? If it's the latter, you'll have to tile the room. Our es, we have a former, and have the room tiled. Used a mapei tanking kit. Our basement bathroom has a ceramic tray and we've left in.

My dad fell on ceramic tiles years ago so now I am a bit afraid of mum falling. Beginning to think its the only real option. Screed going down on Tuesday so I need to make up my mind on this today to get the parts for the plumber.

My 25m2 garden building doesn’t have to comply with regs and we won’t be throwing money at it as it is just a man cave, but I still want it nice and useable.

This idea would solve my ‘getting concrete down the bottom of the garden after we’ve built the house’ problem.  I’m keen.

Having used amtico in the bathrooms I'd have no issue using it in a wet room.

I can't see how it would be less effective than tiles. I'm dreading the day we have to remove ours. Whatever glue they gave us is tough stuff.

I also despise hard tiles floors from a comfort and safety perspective.

Iceverge Thank you, was it an actual wet room? Can you recall products you used to waterproof, adhesive and cover in top?

Nervous because everywhere is saying you can't.

Only other solution that seems ok is this creative resin like in swimming pools but then what do I use for the actual drain? Is it the one for vinyl not tiles?

Sorry self build hub, we are moving in 3 weeks so pressure is on. It's overwhelming!

from watching my floor fitters doing my LVT floors

they would not consider it without a self leveling layer to start with  and then lots of time spent checking it for actual level and cleaning every spec of dust

then and only then did they start laying tiles  and use a heavy garden roller type thing to make sure they are down flat after laying

no UFH for 2 days at least ,then very low heat for a week to make sure everything is happy

OHH and a humdity reading of less than 3,7%  in subfloor before self levelling applied  more than that could cause lifting of tiles over time with trapped moisture trying to get out

Not an actual wet room, just the bathroom floor.

I'll have to go to the shed to find the adhesive. It was some magic stuff from Poland from memory.

I used tanking paint over the floor first and then SLC over that .

I second the need to have the floor immaculate though. I left a grain of dirt under one of the tiles and you can feel it with your toes.

On a separate note take a day off. Get ugly with everyone about the moving date and push it back. I gave myself the world of stress with this, baby enroute etc.

Absolutely not worth it. It's only a house.

Thanks, unfortunately I can't push back the date but I work shifts for by taking 3 off, I have 9 in a row. Although stressed the GP gave me a talking to so I am now trying to do the minimum to get in and stop the masochism. I know at the end it will be worth it but I have a lot of people depending on me (a few vulnerable)so I need to get there. Anyway, a wee bit of excitement creeping in again so that helps lol.

I know the feeling. Mind yourself.

If you need to get in the door just tank the bathroom well and put off the tiling.

It'll work perfectly well. In fact it is often a rather appealing swimming pool blue colour that reminds me of holidays brochures.
