DIYHacker
Hi all I need to move & replace the existing external light we have. As you can see its mounted to the board with the wire cut short. This light provides pretty useless coverage outdoors so I am going to replace it but would like to mount it on the other corner wall (as visible in 2nd picture) so I need to extend the wires to reach (maybe 20cm). As they will be exposed to the elements, what is the best / safest way to do this?! I will then mount the wire on the board, paint it etc so you don't notice it.. running new cabling is not really an option here.
ProDave
Fit a waterproof external junction box in place of the old light and extend your cable from there. Most LED outdoor lamps now come with a captive length of flex.
Conor
Easiest thing to do is to buy two lights, replace the original, wire up to original supply. Then run a new cable from the replacement light's terminals to the new light on the other corner. 1.5mm cable should be enough.
Super_Paulie
What Dave said. IP65 black junction box and extend the cables/connect the new light via Wago is probably what id do. Edited November 6 by Super_Paulie
joe90
To join a cable I would solder the wires, use heat shrink tubes on each wire and also total external and wrap in tape self amalgamating.
Pocster
Or … join cables with this gel box
DIYHacker Posted Monday at 11:06 Author Share Posted Monday at 11:06 Thanks all for the advice! Managed to get it sorted over the weekend and got it all decorated. Only bit left is to paint the bit of cable black when I sand down the board and repaint it.. Think it all turned out pretty good.
