Junglejam
A wood burning stove question for those building an air-tight, self-build house with MVHR, I have two questions: 1. What is your stove of choice, as needs to be direct feed and air tight to not affect the balance of the MVHR 2. Can you self-cert/install, letting building control know you are doing so and signed off on completion of build?

Can you self-cert/install, letting building control know you are doing so and signed off on completion of build? I fitted a Mendip Stoves Chirchill 5 in my house. We chose it after doing a tour of all the stove retailers within 50 miles. The important thing is the stove takes both primary and secondary air from the ducted air in port. Not all do. Building control checked and certified the installation, the main things they check was distance to combustible materials from the stove and flue, requiring a copy of parts of the installation manual to check against. JohnMo
42 minutes ago, Junglejam said: not affect the balance of the MVHR It's about not depressurisation of the house and carbon monoxide spilling in to the house. It a health and safety issue. An unbalanced MVHR system is just a consequence and really doesn't matter. Not really about what I liked, it's about what you like and suits your home, just make sure primary and secondary are supplied via the inlet duct. Many makes and models don't. I went HETAS, registered for ease of compliance. They also sweep the flue and service annually to keep the right side of my home insurance. Alan Ambrose
>>> Can you self-cert/install Yes, I did. Sent drawing beforehand and a short doc with installation photos after. Suspect much more ‘professional’ than a typical HETAS install - maybe they don’t supply anything to BC.
