Renderboard exposure

Hey all

What do I do about expansion gaps ?

Do I just leave a few mm between the board and soffit for example ?

also how long long can the board be left attached to the build externally but not rendered ? ( if not long is it ok to cover it in polythene for example ? )

cheers

You need to decide on which board you are going to use and get the fitting instructions from the manufacturer as they do differ quite considerably. What are you putting on top of the boards?

Not sure

k rend or similar

You need to work back from the outside. Decide what render then see what board is suitable. It is a nightmare as they all differ in some aspect of fitting and if you do not follow their requirements you stand no chance if you have a problem later on

If you are hoping for a warranty on the eender you will want an approved contactor for that brand of render to fit the boards and put the render on

Crumbs ! It's not just board and get any k rend guy ( or similar ) to do it then !!!

i guess I thought of it in the same context as a plasterer .....

We are using a silicone render...its part of an alumasc vented facade system specially designed for  timber frames, its v expensive but has BBA cert and guaranteed for umpteen years. Being fitted by specialist contractors and is currently in the process of being done. Glad we are only doing part of the house in render its massively more expensive than larch!

Six mil gap

you can leave the board exposed indefinitely

don’t cover it

If your near trees you may have to give it a clean prior to base coat

k rend sell a really good algi cleaner

spray it on Leave an hour

wash off with a hose

Comes up like new

You are obviously allowed to put the boards up yourself, but I wouldn't start until you know the cost of getting an approved contractor to do it. (I just means they have done a days free course) as you will have the peace of mind of a warranty. You can see one possible issue by not having sufficent gap in this thread.

I wouldn’t hold to much store in the Krend warrantee Like most thing it’s a product warrantee

doesn’t cover bad workmanship

Ghosting etc

Though as pointed out above Krend affiliated is a must

Any good contractor will be happy to show off recent jobs that they have completed

ball park guide to a fully rendered new build with around 200 mtrs of render (openings measured in)

base coat and mesh £8.50 per mtr

two coats silicon  Krend 15

rubbed up the following day

£22 per mtr

Labour only

Scaffold extra
