If you have treated mains water into an unvented tank. there should be no bacteria in the incoming water and no way for any to get in, so several people have concluded it is pointless to heat it hotter once a week. Private water or vented cylinder, yes you do need to do it.

Private water or vented cylinder, yes you do need to do it. Must have missed that debate. That said, for much of the year the solar lifts the tank temp to the desired levels. Outside of that, the sterilisation cycle of our heat pump is fortnightly rather than weekly, and runs during the cheap Intelligent Octopus rate at night, so cost is minimal. If it helps people in making the decision about whether to run an anti-legionella cycle or not, the following is from the excellent Heat Pumps for the Home book by John Cantor.

Personally I think the risk in domestic premises is vanishingly small. We use filtered and UV treated rainwater and even when we are away the PV keeps the tank at 55C all the time, so have never had a problem with it in 17 years. ReedRichards
Given that your heat pump is off anyway, you could make absolutely sure it is off by cutting its power and see if that makes any difference. Are you sure that the cleaner does not come early?
Nick Laslett
Everybody loves a mystery. I hope @NSS is able to solve it without too much drama.

Nick Laslett
Hello @NSS, any success in trouble shooting this problem?
NSS
5 hours ago, Nick Laslett said: Hello @NSS, any success in trouble shooting this problem? Inconclusive. It was definitely the heat pump coming on, even though neither heat nor tank were programmed to run at the times it was happening (random Monday mornings), and none of the room stats were calling for heat. It's only happened once more since I reported the problem, and not since I put all the room stats into frost protection mode, so I may have to wait until next winter to see if it's still an issue.
