Sparrowhawk
The popular online answer is "when it's converted", but that's not very specific! The last owners built a utility room in the back third of the garage. The remaining space is too short for a car. I'm now thinking of taking another chunk as a plant room for the MVHR. At what point is the remaining space no longer considered a garage, and so the fire regulations for a garage don't apply? It would be handy not to have to add fire dampers to the MVHR ducts where they pass through the stud wall and into the utility room.
markc
If it’s not big enough for a car but you could get a couple of motor bikes in there then you still have a petrol fire potential. If it’s not practical to get a wheeled vehicle through the opening then it can’t (surely not) be classed as a garage.
joe90
Even if it was not classed as a garage you might have a petrol mower in there 🤷♂️. Anyway call it a bike shed, who is going to notice 🙄
