joe90
Just using my table saw (soft start with no volt switching) and it packed up, will run if I hold the on button in but will not hold itself. It was modified with an extra mains socket to run a vacuum for dust removal. Any ideas please chaps π€·ββοΈ

joe90
Ah, itβs working now!!, overheating? The additional socket i have never used (installed by the previous owner) and I have not used it before but as I recently had a bad chest infection thought I would rig it up, so could the extra load of the vaccuum cause a fault? I have been working it hard this morning ripping timber into usable pieces. Edited March 10 by joe90

Β I had a similar problem with a bench grinder that had a safety cutout so if you lost power while using the tool, it would switch itself off. I found that the electromagnet part of the mechanism had failed somehow and that it would only work when holding it. It started suddenly, then intermittently and gradually got worse until I had to bin the switch and find a replacement.
