NoGearSomeIdea Posted February 6, 2024 Posted February 6, 2024 Hey everyone, Doing a diy heating install for radiator pipes which are gonna be dormant for ages so didn’t really want to leave flux in them for months. Bought a manual press tool and it’s leaving big burrs & slight deformations. Is this normal? Don’t want to do the whole lot and cry when it comes to testing.
TonyT Posted February 6, 2024 Posted February 6, 2024 Are the press tool and fittings compatible with each other?
Alan Ambrose Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 For peace of mind, you can pressure test now rather than wait until you commission the lot.
Conor Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 Yeah, stick a compression end cap on and start filling with water in stages.
Alan Ambrose Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 Or hire one of these for a day? https://www.screwfix.com/p/rothenberger-rp-30-pressure-testing-pump-30bar/83797
SimonD Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 Have you got the correct fittings and jaw combo? Those connections look terrible, I wouldn't want them anywhere near an installation. Maybe better to hire a press fit kit, or even buy and then sell on? £1500 quid now is cheap compared to potentially fixing failed fittings later on down the road.

It’s apparently for M Press fittings, and came with a calibration cert that could have been made in MS Word.. https://press-tools.co.uk/product/alpha-jt-1632-manual-crimping-tool-m-profile-kit/ They feel solid enough, wouldn’t be bothered if the fittings weren’t so pricy.

HughF Posted February 8, 2024 Posted February 8, 2024 (edited) That’s normal. All my M jaws press like that in my afp101 Edited February 8, 2024 by HughF 1
