markharro Posted January 13, 2024 Posted January 13, 2024 I read about this issue on a passive house blog. We will have our system put in in a few months and the flow and return pipes will go through a ground floor bedroom ceiling. Will there be any noise issues? If so how to mitigate? I think you can get special pipe fittings with rubber gaskets? Would those be worthwhile? thanks
Conor Posted January 13, 2024 Posted January 13, 2024 Use plastic pipes and lag. Don't fix to the ceiling joists and have a layer of mineral wool insulation under. Won't hear anything
JohnMo Posted January 13, 2024 Posted January 13, 2024 Unless you have super small piping or a huge ASHP there is no noise from piping, from what I have experienced.
Kelvin Posted January 13, 2024 Posted January 13, 2024 (edited) There’s a very slight hum at the manifold with ours. The pumps are near silent. I’m very pleased with how quiet it is as the plant room backs onto the study. The ASHP is louder than I was expecting but it is running in floor drying mode currently. ReedRichards Posted January 13, 2024 Posted January 13, 2024 When my flow and return pipes were first installed above the kitchen they were quite noisy, almost a resonance. But after they were insulated that noise ceased.
HughF Posted January 14, 2024 Posted January 14, 2024 Mine are silent….. the incoming cold though, wow…. Must do something about that.
