Water trapped between concrete pipe section and wall

There are 2 concrete pipe sections that were previously used as a water butt.

 

I emptied the water because they were leaking and we don't actually need to collect this water.

I removed the stones between the pipe section and the wall and dug down removing all the earth.

However I have noticed that water is pooling here and draining away very slowly.

 

Can I simply fill the hole with earth and let the water drain away?

 

I'm not sure why it is collecting here so much because along the rest of this wall the water is draining fine. There are no areas in the garden where water is collecting, even in heavy rain.

Smash that big concrete chamber out, dig down and find the drain underground, check the drain is in working order, connect down pipe to drain.

I don't think there is an underground drain here. The water just use to collect in the concrete rings and get used for gardening etc.

 

There is a small drain that you can see in the picture that I think was used for overflow but I am not sure where that goes and don't fancy digging up the driveway to find out.

No need to dig up the drive, I’m sure the downpipe used to go into a gulley on the end of the drain, remove the rings as above and get the water going into the drain again,

No it's unlikely. This is an old farm and there isn't much in the way of installed drainage, gulleys, pipes, etc.

In that case, remove the rings, dig a big hole and throw the broken rings and any stones, bricks etc in as a soak away

Ok this is interesting. I was trying to avoid a soakaway so close to the house. And also avoid removing the rings as they look pretty solid and very heavy.

Yeah currently I have 5m of PVC pipe just running along the ground and dumping the water on the grass.

If you'd rather get it out of sight dig a hole there and fill with the jaggiest bits of rubble. It's best to line the hole in permeable membrane to keep the earth  and roots out. Also on top before backfilling.
