  1. Yeah currently I have 5m of PVC pipe just running along the ground and dumping the water on the grass.
  2. Ok this is interesting. I was trying to avoid a soakaway so close to the house. And also avoid removing the rings as they look pretty solid and very heavy.
  3. No it's unlikely. This is an old farm and there isn't much in the way of installed drainage, gulleys, pipes, etc.
  4. I don't think there is an underground drain here. The water just use to collect in the concrete rings and get used for gardening etc. There is a small drain that you can see in the picture that I think was used for overflow but I am not sure where that goes and don't fancy digging up the driveway to find out.
  5. There are 2 concrete pipe sections that were previously used as a water butt. I emptied the water because they were leaking and we don't actually need to collect this water. I removed the stones between the pipe section and the wall and dug down removing all the earth. However I have noticed that water is pooling here and draining away very slowly. Can I simply fill the hole with earth and let the water drain away? I'm not sure why it is collecting here so much because along the rest of this wall the water is draining fine. There are no areas in the garden where water is collecting, even in heavy rain.
  6. Image explanation Long blue line: ditch for rain water Pink: gutter Orange: underground pipe Green circles: rain barrels with the tap open Green lines: hose Blue circles: water deposits from the hose Water must not enter the sewer system and must be deposited on the property or in the ditch. The ditch is not very deep so running underground pipes from the north side to the ditch may not allow a fall. The hoses are there because I'm afraid that the rain barrels will fill up so quickly and then overflow. I'm assuming it's not good to have overflowing water next to the foundation. It's not ideal to run a lot of hoses across the floor. What possible solutions are there for such a property? Underground storage?
  7. Would the grate connect to the first horizontal section of PVC pipe?
  8. Yeah I considered gully traps however because it's only 4m I'm hopeful there won't be any issues. Should it and off leaves going in to the pipe from the gutter? The pipe will be buried however where the zinc connected with the pvc, there will be some orange pvc exposed. Should I have use a different pipe for the above ground section?
  9. An outlet? The pipe I installed in the first pictures is 110mm. Is it an issue how fast it drains? Yeah I think going in to the earth to the right of the slab works well. Ib think doing that with the pvc is easier for me, then I don't need to do any work with the zinc pipe.
  10. Today I completed a cast iron downpipe to PVC drain connection. The rain water is deposited in to a ditch that runs along the side of the property. I want to do the same on the other end of the gutter, however there is a thick concrete (I assume) slab that runs along the ground next to the wall: Should I remove the slab and do as I have done on the other side, or is there an acceptable alternative. Ideally as much of the pipe should be buried as possible.
  11. Here is the result of my and my wife's morning. There is a 1cm in the sleeve highlighted in red. Hopefully that will not cause issues. All pipes were champfer with hand file and sanded with 120 grit. Lube is essential. Now we will run the water and observe all joints to check no water is leaking, bed with sand, cover with sand and then earth.
  12. There were some old socket holes about 5cm deep in the wall which I filled with expanding foam. I would like to smooth the area prior to wallpapering. Can I use some filler directly on the foam?
  13. Yeah, that sounds easy. I had it in my mind I had to fill it, but covering it works well.
  14. This hole was for a extraction hood that has been removed. The cable will also be removed. I'd like to cover/close the hole. It doesn't have to be pretty because the ceiling will be replaced next year. There is cold space above (barn) so I'll also be laying some insulation above the hole to reduce heat loss. The ceiling is currently wood.
