Taming the uncoiled ducting beast

Recommended Posts

Father in-law, thought he was helping and in his wisdom uncoiled 150m of 90mm semi-rigid ducting into our loft space (because they wouldn't fit through the loft hatch coiled).

It's now like spaghetti junction up there.

I need to somehow get them coiled back up again so I can start laying some runs, without kinking them in the process.

Any tips of the trade before SWMBO and I tackle it this evening?

Chuck one end back down the loft hatch, then chuck it down the stairs.

then chuck it out the front door.

You will need to be fairly violently with it, having fitted 100’s of metres of this you will struggle to kink it.

Mark your plenum location and run a length from there back to the manifold

you will be surprised how quickly 150m disappears

why did you buy 150m

50m rolls are a pain🤣🤣

3x 50m rolls. Managed to make use of one running some plenums, had to hand ball the other two to get them back into something that resembles a coil - best workout I've had in years. Will tackle uncoiling them again next week.

Wtf? Leave the coils outside, measure up each run individually and cut each length as needed + ~2m

that’s what I did for the first set of runs (white pipe) as they were pulled in whilst that side of the house was back to brick and opened up to the world anyway. But the opposite side (where I’m running the grey pipes) we’re currently living in so it was less of an option to strip it all back and pull it in as you suggest (as it would have been much easier.
