July 13, 20242 yr In 20 years time you may want to replace the panels (falling efficiency of older panels / lower cost / better technology available) and probably the trays (the plastic will be brittle and probably the wrong size for the new panels). That is, pretty much re-roof assuming you've crowded your roof with panels. At that time, might you may have wished you did the on-roof thing as that probably only involves replacing the panels and bolting them onto the old rails?
August 1, 20251 yr Apologies for resurrecting an old topic, but we are getting to the stage of getting the roof (sips) on and then getting the Solar installers on site to fit our trays as we wanted the array to fit nicely around 3 velux's (MK08's). I have lost count on how many people have said you cant have a velux in the middle of a solar array... when I show them the GSE literature i never hear back from them... It just feels like we are the first people ever to do this! This then makes me worried as no one has fitted any like this around me (West Scotland) and worried when it comes to installing they wont have a clue or start ordering the bits needed as they go along! I know there is technical help available from France, but it would be good to have someone in the uk to at least talk to on the phone to reassure myself and the installers... Does the use of the ODL? kit mean that you dont need the standard flashing that Velux sell? All sounds very scary at the moment as still not convinced that the apertures in the Sips roof panels are going to be in the right positions.
