johnhenstock83
Morning, we’ve created a small space behind the stairs, with the aim of creating a downstairs toilet. It’s about 0.9m x 1.8m. Drainage and pipes (soil pipe, water supply, sink drain) are installed and in place and I’m looking to start building the actual room. the idea is to build a frame that will cover the concealed cistern and the pipes on one of the walls, then either paint it, cover it with decorative panels or tile it. can someone point me in the right direction on how to build the frame? What size battens? How to fit them to the studwall? Anything else I need to think of? thanks
markc
Are you using a cistern frame? Or just hiding a separate cistern? If using a frame, that takes all the load of the cistern and pan so all you need then is panels to make the box, aqua panel (or similar) or plywood means no need for framing as other than to fix to wall and floor

ProDave
Nothing wrong with making your own boxing in for a concealed cistern, easy if it's a floor standing pan. If it's a wall hung pan. you are better off as above buying a proper metal frame for it. BUT whatever you do, something in the cistern WILL go wrong one day, so you need access to it for servicing, so some form of access hatch is essential. Dave Jones
use a gerberet or similar flush frame, the button panel comes out allowing future access if needed.
