Alternative to parge coat

getting to the point of needing to parge the celcon block walls for airtightness.

 

Was thinking rather than brushing in sand/cement slurry to spray on a covering of cheap emulsion. 

 

Would it give a similar air tightness as parge ?

Maybe, but maybe not and most likely not. If it worked no one do large coating, they would just get of tins of emulsion. Or use a proper airtight paint.

 

Builders sand, cement and lime, is an easy enough task. It's flexible enough to withstand a bit of building movement. Took two of us, just under two days, to do 70m by an average of 3m high.

I really can’t imagine emulsion doing a great job, I could only see a thick latex type paint doing a proper job of air tightness but saying that sand cement slurry is cheap and easy to do.

Spend extra time sealing the dot and dab 

Parge for Airtightness is a waste of time and money

As soon as your dry liners see the Parge They will cut corners 

 

I use 100s m2s per year Never for airtightness Other than the odd self builder Always soundblock As it says on the bags

I’m doing mine in dot and dab 

I could easily wet plaster 

But you can get just as good airtightness with both
