Garage with Mouldy/Musty Smell

Hi all

I recently bought my first home and the Garage is attached to the front of the property. The garage has a flat roof and has had a bad leak in the past which has caused the roof wood to go mouldy. The leak has been fixed......mostly, there is still a very small leak that only leaks when there is a downpour (which is every other day in Scotland)

There is no ventilation in the garage at all apart from the gaps around the up-and-over garage door. Will any amount of ventilation get rid of the smell and mould? I'm a car guy so will be spending a lot of time in the garage so would like it to not smell if possible.

I know that the roof wood will probably need replaced soon, but I'm looking for a short term solution to hopefully get rid of the smell.

Cheers

Shug

sounds like you need a new roof.

yeah i understand that it will need replaced and that is planned in the future, just looking for a way to get rid of the musty smell.

If the roof timbers (and any insulation) has been soaked, then even fixing the leak will not stop the smell. The whole lot needs to be stripped off and replaced. Only then will it be fresh once more.
