crispy_wafer
Hi, A couple of simple questions, When using fittings like 90 degree elbows, or couplings is it worthwhile using a blob or two of sealant as well as the rubber sealing rings? Also, would it be good practice to put a wrap of duct tape around the joints? And finally is it worth firing the unit up after connecting all the ductwork up just to do a ducting leak check? thx. MikeGrahamT21
You'll have a job on getting the pipe plus rubber seal into the fitting, which will show just how well they seal. Shouldn't be any need for anything else. Make sure you clip the retaining ring into the fitting too. No need for duct wrap tape around the semi rigid stuff. As long as its decent quality kit, it should perform as designed with no worries.
MJNewton
For belt and braces I put two seal img rings on any join (I only had the beginnings and ends). Almost certainly not necessary but for pennies per seal I figured why not. Edited February 3, 2023 by MJNewton
Iceverge
A bit of silicon spray or Vaseline can help the seals slide home too.

No need for it I expect but the builder was adamant as he also takes a belt and braces approach.
