Vijay
I used a company for my footings who mixed in a volumetric mixer on site. I used more than I originally thought I would and someone has said to me that you use approx. 18% more concrete when it's mixed on site, than in a depot and delivered to site. Something to do with how the dry vs mixed amount is measured out/sold/weighed. Has anyone ever heard of that as I will be ordering a lot more concrete over the next few months? RichS
I'd say that's a load of crap. The volume is what the volume is and regardless of where it's mixed it will still only hold the same.
jamiehamy
I'm pretty dubious!
Construction Channel
as above. the only advantage of drum lorries/barrel mixers is how fast they can empty, I have always been a bit skeptical of how they measure volumetric lorry amounts, but I very much doubt they are that far out. Declan52
When it leaves the the yard it should have it's fully laden weight on the docket as they always have a weigh bridge in the yard. 1m3 is 2.4t.
Vijay
That's what I'd have assumed too but just thought I'd ask
jamiehamy
Either way tho you order by the cubic metre not the weight? A m3 is a m3!
Russ P
I deliver concrete and we only use volumetric mixers due to it being more practical for the customers 1: you only pay for what you have 2: it's freshly mixed on site for you. as for asking how it's measured. Each mix i.e c25, c30, c35 has its one set up and you adjust the gravel and sand gates to each mix setting. It is then measure via sensors on the belt that delivers the sand and gravel
