We have three 40mm waste connections for future use, so no appliances connected. BCO has asked for traps to be fitted rather than just bungs. I've a load of left over solvent weld bends... Can I just make up my own traps using three 90⁰ bends and short lengths of pipes? We're at the stage of the build where saving £20 here and there is really important!

Why not? They are only temporary!

I can't think of a reason. Only thing would be the bottom of the trap wouldn't be a continuous smooth U bend.. more like a upside down n. But as they won't be used there's no worries over blockages.

The only problem with unused u bends is they might dry out (so put a bung in after the BCO has visited) 🙄.

Find a merchant who does sale or return.  Fit the traps.  Invite BCO.  Remove and return the traps for a refund.

Yes, but it is £4 for a cheap Ubend, and you get to keep and reuse it. Or look in a skip and there is often one there, if you can be bothered cleaning it of a stranger's waste.

A home-made one doesn't come apart for cleaning. BCO might say no.

Spend the £4 say I, but well done for questioning the obvious.
