Adsibob
Thanks @joe90 So if I buy a brass cable grip like this, can i just swap it out for the plastic one in the rose?
ProDave
You might be very lucky and find the metal one you linked to has the same thread as the original plastic one. That is if the plastic one ecen screws in or is fixed some other way. That rose is probably meant to be used with a decorative metal cowl so the appearance of the plastic cable grip does not matter. Are you trying to use it without the cowl?

joe90
Will the black bit come off? If so just put it in the inside, it won’t need to be “fitted “ just loose, then you won’t see it at all 🤷♂️

The other option is to return this and find a better alternative elsewhere. The problem is that I also need a matching one with a hook, like this: https://www.industville.co.uk/products/vintage-edison-lighting-metal-hook-ceiling-rose-single-outlet-antique-brass

I think the reason it's helpful to have the gripper on the outside is that one can adjust it after the rose has been mounted on the ceiling. i.e. if you want it 5cm longer or shorter you can loosen it and pull or push the flex then tighten it.
