CalvinHobbes
Ignore this its stopped leaking .😁 Removing copper tank prior to demo. Turned off stop cock in kitchen. Drained copper tank for at least an hour, it was just dribbling at the sink....started cutting copper pipe at top of tank and whoosh. Came outside to road, figured I might be able to turn it off from there ...no idea what this is. Took polystyrene out...white stick thing 😬 Edited March 17, 2022 by CalvinHobbes
ProDave
That's a stopcock / boundary box / Toby Choose which is the usual term for your area

CalvinHobbes
It used to stop the water to the whole house but I am not convinced it does anymore.
CalvinHobbes
I cut another pipe so another flood ongoing. If I went out to the footpath and opened up this again, how do I turn off the water to the house? Thanks
CalvinHobbes
So do I turn the white handle or the bolt? The water flowing is reducing inside the house so guessing it must just be water left in pipe network.
PeterW
White tee - do not turn the bolt that is the plug for the meter !!
ProDave
If you have turned the Toby off and you still have water coming out, it is probably just emptying the pipes or draining down a tank. It is not like electricity where it all stops dead when you turn it off. The white handle at the bottom right in your picture is the stop valve and it looks to be in the off position.
