cwr
Thinking of fridges and washing machines here, non built in ones. Is it ok to just put a socket on the wall behind them or should I have an isolation switch in a more accessible place, eg above a near by worktop and that isolate the socket? Thanks. Simplysimon
more accessible place, inside base unit next to appliance?
TonyT
Do whatever you want really as the consumer unit will have a means of isolation via the big red switch lots of people do isolation above, some collate isolators in a grid, some don’t bother and some fit surface boxes in adjacent units. just think of the environment/ potential water ingress etc. Edited January 21, 2022 by TonyT
Dudda
I put one of these in the corner of the kitchen. It's very handy. Think if you want to defrost a freezer, extra safety in replacing a filter in a cooker hood, do a deep clean on the fridge, etc.
joe90
I was told once that some repair engineers won’t work on appliances if they cannot isolate them before starting work, not sure if it’s true, when I used to fit kitchens I preferred to put a socket in the adjacent cupboard ?
