Barryscotland
Our external skin is 4” block which is going to be pebble dashed, we would like quoins on the corners. Can anybody advise if they can be bought anywhere? Preferably slightly wider than than 4” so they don’t need to be stepped out. Builder we have said he could make a mold and cast them but we are running out of time to get the block up before winter arrives.

Casting them yourself is an art and tricky if you don't have the right gear and curing process. The edges will tend to chip too unless you set chamfers inside the mould.. not look good. lastly you could also get salts appearing on your home made coins.. not a great look either. Can you describe what you want to do in more detail. Do you have cement bands round your windows. You can step the banding at the corners so they look like coins.. takes time to set up the beads but it can be done. It would maybe take a day per corner to set the beads. You can buy precast coins that are 120 /130 thick and you render into them but with the supply problem this may get you out a hole?

PeterW
Addstone do them from stock but can you not use the bond on ones when you render as it’s easier ..?

Yes purely for decoration, builder (retired relative and done our founds and doing blockwork to save us on some labour fees) has cast all the base course blocks himself instead of using 4” block as they will be visible at the bottom of the pebble dash and he wanted them to be more aesthetic, he now wants to make the quoins but it was 2 weeks + to make the base course blocks so if I can just buy something to save time I will. cement bands round the inside of window only 21 minutes ago, Gus Potter said: You can buy precast coins that are 120 /130 thick and you render into them but with the supply problem this may get you out a hole? If you are diving by Stirling then nip into see Sterling Precast in Spingkerse Ind Est (different spelling). The factory is amazing, try and get a tour, then go for lunch. Last time I was in they were very helpful, make a good job too! Edited November 21, 2021 by Gus Potter
tonyshouse
We made our own on one project, arrived box smeared round with white cement/yellow sand and carefully filled with concrete , turn out the next day build in after a week they were almost indistinguishable from sandstone ones
