Hi everyone, just starting out on our first new build up in Caithness so joined the forum, hopefully will pick up some good tips and advice on here. Going for a kit from Haus in Inverness and will have the planning through shortly, then the fun begins.....

Will add photos and updates as we go along, pretty daunting now it's all coming together.

Regards

Alan

Hi Alan,

How is your self build journey going?

we are also with HAUS in inverness, still waiting on  planning right enough. have your prices risen much since your initial quote with them? are you getting a bespoke design or something similiar from what they have on their website?

regards,

David

Hi David,

Sorry for not replying sooner but I've been working away, we finally have our building warrant through (six months after planning....) but now have the problem of a water main running through the field we're building in. We're waiting for the water board to come and find it, it's an 1 1/2" asbestos pipe that was installed in 1950 so have been advised it will be as brittle as anything. We have to have a WIRS approved contractor do the plans & moving the water main - 1st quote was 14.5K..!!

We're going to build the Moncrieffe as thats what we both like, just a standard design. It's dragged on the be honest but we'll get there, still waiting for an updated quote but would imagine it's gone up a bit....

Hi. where in Caithness? We're building in Occumster nr Lybster.

With reference to the concrete asbestos pipe, we ran our road over a 3" asbestos/ concrete pipe.

We had to expose the pipe to confirm the depth luckily the pipe was laid in a blasted trench so we were given permission to continue. The connection was straightforward.

Have you seen the wayleave documents for the pipe? If they haven't got an agreement the ball could be back on thier court.

Thank you for the reply, we are still waiting on planning to sort them selfs out, making us jump through hoops at the moment, dreading getting our kit repriced when it comes to it as got a feeling it may go up by over 20%. Moncrieff is a very nice design, hoping this week planning comes in and we can crack on with the build warrant.

Best regards

David
