Pocster Posted April 17, 2021 Posted April 17, 2021 (edited) Stupidity on my part ! Instructions https://www.qssupplies.co.uk/bathroom-furniture-shower-taps/75877.htm# What I don’t understand is what stops the water going in behind the controls ? ( I don’t mean the face plate ) Sure I could stick some sealant around it - to stop water running behind the wall - but it could still go around the spindles . So white plastic ‘bits ‘ . A square chrome ‘collar ‘ - but that just sits in the hole - no fixing ; silicone again ?? Edited April 17, 2021 by pocster
Nickfromwales Posted April 17, 2021 Posted April 17, 2021 Up the sides and across the top of the plate, with a bit of clear CT1 and NOT across the bottom. The spindles should have thin rubber o rings on them. 1

Pocster Posted April 17, 2021 Author Posted April 17, 2021 I might of (expletive deleted)ed up here ! Cant get knob grub screw to bite spindle ! Presume valve is too far back - can’t move it !! Only about 2mm short ! ?

Pocster Posted April 17, 2021 Author Posted April 17, 2021 Took this end off . By making the screw loose I can gain a few mm . But now of course it wobbles ! Is this a ‘standard’ fitting ? ( need a longer one ! ) . Or what’s a good way to ‘pack’ the end out to make it longer ?
Nickfromwales Posted April 17, 2021 Posted April 17, 2021 1 hour ago, pocster said: Don’t get what it goes around ? The spindle ??? Yup. Looks like you fitted the whole valve too far back. Those o rings grip the chrome cylinders which protrude from the valve, which makes the plate a friction fit usually. 1
Nickfromwales Posted April 17, 2021 Posted April 17, 2021 Yup. Looked at the pic close up ?. You’re a good 10-12mm shy of what would be the minimum ‘protrusion’ here Shirley. 1
Pocster Posted April 17, 2021 Author Posted April 17, 2021 @Nickfromwales got you . This ensuite valve I can’t move forward without smashing the wall apart ( ain’t going to happen ! ) . So can I ‘stick’ something on the end of those spindles to gain 15mm ?? Or anyone got some insane skills to ‘cut’ 15mm off the handles ! ?
Pocster Posted April 17, 2021 Author Posted April 17, 2021 Main bathroom easy . Must of sub consciously anticipated an issue . Can simply push the whole fitting forward ! Can gain 10mm no issue ?? Ensuite though ... erm ..... can’t access from the rear !!
Pocster Posted April 17, 2021 Author Posted April 17, 2021 Emailed roper Rhodes ; they have a special email address for these issues im_a_twat@roperrhodes.ffs 1 2
Tennentslager Posted April 17, 2021 Posted April 17, 2021 I googled shower valve extension and hot this https://www.amazon.co.uk/CORNAT-TEC382201-Chrome-Brass-Extension/dp/B000VT5LC2/ref=asc_df_B000VT5LC2/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=255483677928&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=13751380042374131861&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1007336&hvtargid=pla-420563073550&psc=1&th=1&psc=1

Don’t see how it fits onto my spindles . Both are different ...
Tennentslager Posted April 17, 2021 Posted April 17, 2021 I feel your pain, did the same once but got away with it as it was a bar shower? 1
Nickfromwales Posted April 17, 2021 Posted April 17, 2021 Every day is a school day mate. Tiles off, lick your wounds, put it right, stick tiles back on, go to pub. Short cuts always take 3 times longer. Just get it started now, you’ll be finished by tomorrow evening. 1

Playing with the main bathroom one ( as it’s easy to adjust ) . Instructions show none of this but hey .... Black o ring on reverse - this makes sense ! . But the square chrome collar can still turn ! Edited April 17, 2021 by pocster
Nickfromwales Posted April 17, 2021 Posted April 17, 2021 Don’t think about it. Just do it. Damage limitation is paramount, so get the grout out first surrounding the tiles you need to remove, WITHOUT RUSHING AND DAMAGING THE KEEPERS, and grind some Union Jack relief cuts in the ones which are going. Work slowly, and methodically, and use dust sheets galore. 1

If this leaks a little, but long term, it’ll wreck the place.

I can’t see where these o rings sit ( those collars are the only things with a ‘notch’ for something . The collars do have a o ring in them already ( which presumably goes against the spindle shroud ) .
Nickfromwales Posted April 17, 2021 Posted April 17, 2021 (edited) Yup. Can you get the plates on so they’re both friction fit against the internal o rings of the plate inserts? The plates should stay on by themselves. Edited April 17, 2021 by Nickfromwales 1

The square collar has an internal o ring which does indeed go against the spindle collar . It’s this other o ring I don’t get . Taking it all apart , putting it on the collar ( so it would have a o ring inside and outside ) it won’t fit in the face plate . You can see it’s mega tight
Pocster Posted April 17, 2021 Author Posted April 17, 2021 @Nickfromwales unless roper Rhodes come back with a mega solution to the ensuite valve being recessed to much I’ll smash the £&£&& tile out ! Got to make sure tile supplier still has some in stock first !!
Nickfromwales Posted April 17, 2021 Posted April 17, 2021 The seals on the squares go on after you’ve put them through the plate. The inner o rings get a bit of your Saturday night smeared on them and friction fit over the remaining stubs of the chrome sleeves projecting from the brass valve.
